Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the day-to-day accounting activities, including preparation of monthly financial statements, supervise payroll, account receivable and accounts payable functions, fixed asset budgets, and maintenance of depreciation schedules. Contribute to meeting company-wide profitability and customer satisfaction goals by producing accurate financial information and effective management of budgeting, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
1. Classify and record all company financial transactions to accurately determine company income, expenses, surplus, and financial condition.
2. Maintain construction management system including setting up projects, budgets, job costs, cost codes, contracts, change orders, purchase orders, and various construction progress reports.
3. Establish SOP’s to ensure accounting processes are clearly understood
4. Prepare month end accounting closes including monthly accruals, recurring entries, cash, and other account reconciliation.
5. Assist with year end financial, tax, and benefit compliance reporting for S corporation and partnerships.
6. Summarize and prepare financial status and transaction reports, including profit and loss and management and performance reports.
7. Analyze discrepancies in the financial reports, calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
8. Document fixed asset purchases and depreciation
9. Supervise weekly payroll and the maintenance of payroll system for proper taxation and reporting of compensation and fringe benefits, union benefits, garnishments, retirement plan contribution, medical benefits, etc. Ensure payroll is processed accurately and timely.
10. Supervise the monthly accounting close and reconcile accounts to ensure accurate reporting
11. Monitor and assist with all tax filings including quarterly sales tax and payroll taxes, business licenses, W-2’s, 1099’s, census and all other tax and reporting requirements.
12. Maintain job cost system including burden rates and work in process schedules, PM performance and management reports.
13. Monitor subcontractor insurance, subcontracts, work agreements, lien releases including supplier lien releases.
14. Prepare weekly cash flow and cash forecasts, monitor cash position, transfers and line of credit advances and payments.
15. Assist in the retention of company records and files including archiving and eventual destruction; assist in computerization of business processes related to construction accounting.
16. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or related field, and at least 3 years’ experience in job costing, construction cost accounting, requisition processes and requirements; contract development and management; experience supervising general accounting staff and functions.
2. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, Enterprise, and Foundation software; knowledge of Timberline/Sage software applications.
3. Ability to read and interpret construction contracts, lien releases, and other accounting construction documents.
4. Ability to systematically analyze moderately complex issues and data.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong time management and organizational skills; ability to set priorities, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
7. Ability to motivate, train and supervise accounting staff.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, co-workers, clients, and subcontractors.
9. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively; willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
2. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
3. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
4. Frequent use of hands, rotation of wrists and finger dexterity for computer keyboard; moderate reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling file drawers of 10 – 50 pounds.
5. Infrequent kneeling, bending, or twisting upper body; lifting 10-20 pounds.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
