Job Purpose:

To effectively and efficiently assist the dentist in providing dental care to patients and to promote Familia Dental’s culture, mission and values.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Dental Hygienist performs many tasks requiring both interpersonal and technical skills. Although state regulations vary, responsibilities will include:

• Take and develop dental diagnostic x-rays.
• Review, complete and update patient's medical history, medical alerts, and signed consent forms.
• Perform hygiene procedures as needed such as: visual and tactile cancer exam, clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, and apply fluorides or other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
• Examine gums, using probes to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease.
• Document/chart all dental procedures performed during each patient visit per Dentist’s instructions and legal requirements.
• Maintain dental equipment and sterilize dental instruments daily.
• Understand and follow HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications:

• Previous dental hygienist experience preferred but not required.
• A valid state Dental Hygienist License.
• Adhering to OSHA, CDC and infection control guidelines.
• Maintain BLS and CPR certificates and radiography certificates (if State required).
