Position Description

Provides oversight, leadership, strategic and functional direction for TTUHSC El Paso library services, including all branches. Responsible for strategic and management of fiscal resources as well as for planning, budgeting, and staffing in support of the academic, instructional and information needs of faculty, students, and staff. Serves as Acting Library Director in the absence of the Executive Director. Personally demonstrate, display, and act in accordance with TTUHSC El Paso's Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork) while serving as a value's leader, actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution.

Major/Essential Functions

Performs original cataloguing, manages catalogue maintenance projects, and is in charge of the libraries' technical services division.
Supervises library staff.
Assists library patrons, answers reference questions, conducts and manages mediated searches, presents at orientations, and provides individual evidence-based medicine training sessions.
Acts as library liaison for institutional and/or clinical departments. Assists with the collection development decisions and weeding of the monograph collections for the assigned departments.
Manages library projects, awards, and grants.
Represents the Libraries in interactions and negotiations with external organizations and vendors, when assigned by the Managing Director.
Manages library operations as assigned and serves as the Managing Director's designee whenever the Managing Director is not available.
Gathers, collects, reports, analyzes, and summarizes library electronic use statistics.
Exhibits on behalf of NLM and NNLM.
Teaches in courses and training sessions for faculty, residents, community members, and students.
Collaborates with the Managing Director in library planning and development processes, as well as in annual library budget preparation and in operational management of the library budget.
Personally demonstrate, display, and act in accordance with TTUHSC EP’s values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Serve as a value’s leader while actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA accredited program.
Minimum of 6 years library experience in a higher education setting (college, university, research institute and/or health-sciences center) to include 2 years of direct supervision of library staff.
Prior experience to include library IT platform management, catalogue maintenance, purchasing, and budget management.
Demonstrated knowledge of ALA Core Competencies.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both oral and written.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate or second Masters (with competency in quantitative analyses preferred).
Prior experience writing library
statistical reports.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and productively without direct, on-site supervision.
Fluent in English language, both oral and written.
Previous leadership experience in a Values Based environment.
