Our client, MoviTHERM, located in Irvine, Ca, specializes in turn-key infrared inspection solutions used in a variety of settings to automate non-destructive testing, quality inspection, early-warning fire detection, and condition monitoring. The team at MoviTHERM create tailored solutions to their clients’ challenges, engineering products with equipment that is simple to integrate, scale up or down, maintain, and operate.

Engineering a new application of their technology, this 24-year-old company is experiencing explosive growth in a start-up-like environment. While the company’s current NDT Technician shifts their focus to IOT and sales inquiries continue to soar, MoviTHERM seeks an additional NDT Technician to join their team.

Position Summary

The Non Destructive Technician (NDT) Technician plays a critical role at MoviTHERM, completing feasibility studies and presenting the process and results to potential customers, demonstrating how the company’s technology can work as a solution to the client’s challenge. The successful NDT will enjoy solving puzzles, working collaboratively, and will have a knack for explaining complex information in an easily digestible manner to an audience with varying levels of prior understanding. An NDT technician with a background in Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT), or Thermal Infrared Testing (irNDT) is highly preferred.

The individual contributors at MoviTHERM are team-minded, solutions-focused, take ownership of their work, are innovative, committed to continuous improvement, and have a great sense of humor; ideally, the NDT will have very similar qualities.

Immediately:

• Begin the process of understanding the company’s culture, history, products, services, and business model by meeting with all members of the company and reviewing the company’s website and marketing materials.
  • Meet with the current NDT Technician, Nathan, to understand NDT workflow.
  • Meet with the Project Manager, Michael, to understand his work style, preferences, and approach in prioritizing projects.
  • Meet with the Sales Manager to understand the how the NDT Technician helps sales with judging the complexity, and ultimately the cost, of a study.

Within 2 weeks:

• Assume responsibility of communications and coordination with the sales manager and project manager regarding prioritization and project timelines.
• Shadow current NDT Technician with all NDT projects learning the different inspection methods; take an active role in documenting the process and creating customer presentations.

Within 1 month:

• Take the first look at new NDT projects; develop a strategy of approach and prepare project for testing.
• Assume responsibility for documenting studies

Within 90 days:

• Become familiar with time to complete tasks and utilize this information to efficiently manage time and expectations.
• Be aware of knowledge known and knowledge unknown; ask for additional training to close knowledge gaps, recognizing the ever-evolving nature of technology
• Present the process and findings of a completed NDT study to a prospective customer

Within 6 months:

• Complete a feasibility study independently
• Complete an installment and training session at client site

Preferred Attribute

• Technical reporting background
• NDT Certification in UT, RT, and/or iRT preferred
• Expert in PowerPoint
• Confident in nature and, but not afraid to admit knowledge is unknown
• Excellent customer service
• Mechanical engineering or physics background

Travel:

This position is located at the company’s headquarters in Irvine, CA. Travel throughout the United States on 1-2 day increments are estimated at 10% of the work schedule. International travel is rare, but possible as 3% of MoviTHERM’s customers are international.
