From the southern beaches of Florida to the northern woods of Maine, LifeConnections Specialized Support Services provides community based residential, day and behavioral health services to youth, adults & families.

We are currently accepting applications for the following position:

Position Title: Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Office / Field Based: Community Based

Compensation: $28.00/hour (automobile insurance is required).

Full Time / Part Time / Per-Diem: Part Time

Total Hours/Week: 15-20 hours a week

Description / Duties: Looking for a reliable person in the Amherst area who is looking for a exciting, rewarding, yet sometimes challenging job, who can fulfill the responsibilities and duties of a DSP while having fun: those responsibilities are as follows:

• Provide support to a male in his late 20's with emotional and behavioral instability, and a traumatic brain injury in an integrated community setting.
• Tailor services and daily activities with consideration of the individual’s needs, interests, competencies, and lifestyle as outlined in the individual service agreement (ISA).
• Provide structure and assistance to help the individual learn, improve, and maintain basic living skills, personal decision-making skills, social skills in the community, safety skills at home and community, rights and responsibilities and a healthy lifestyle.
• Assist the individual with Transportation to his job, then pick up after shift.
• Provide opportunities to become aware of community services and resources.
• Provide transportation to and from activities throughout the day on his days off, if he is up for it.
• Complete daily notes, incident reports as assigned.
• Attend individual service agreement meetings, team meetings and medical appointments with the individual as assigned.
• Attend all supervision meetings and staff meetings.
• Perform duties to reflect agency policies and procedures.

Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday 8:00am-2:30pm (daily hours may vary depending on guardians needs).

Individual has job at a local grocery store. Employee does not need to stay with him during working hours.

Would need transportation to work, then be picked up at the end of his shift. Provide services during all non work hours and on his days off.

Currently only works one day a week, which varies weekly but we would know in advance which day he has work to allow for transportation.

All other days of the week he does not work would be for regular day program and to get out in the community, work on goals, activities of individuals choice.

Other Requirements: Work experience in a health or human service setting required; experience with people with developmental disabilities in a community setting desired. Must possess a valid driver’s license in the state of residence and own means of transportation required. Auto Insurance must meet limit requirements.

What Does a DSP Do?

• Provide supervision and mentoring to clients, including role modeling appropriate behavior, redirection and crisis management
• Teach daily living skills, meal preparation, hygiene practices, recreational & social activities
• Help improve client’s social skills, interpersonal skills, life and coping skills through the development of respectful & positive relationships
• Be a positive role model to help shape growth and build trust
• Be their first line of support to provide emotional stability during moments of crisis

Hiring Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid driver's license required & 18+ years of age.
