Overview:

The payroll clerk is responsible for the full cycle weekly payroll process. Including all reporting and complying with SOX controls.
Qualifications:
Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to):
  • Prepares payroll for 500-700 employees:
    • Compiles payroll data such as hours worked, insurance, and employee identification number, from time sheets and other records
    • Reviews wages computed and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll
    • Records changes affecting net wages such as exemptions and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records
  • Prepares certified payroll for organization; audits and corrects subcontractor certified payroll reports
  • Responds to child support and wage garnishment requests
  • Billing
  • Responds to employment verifications
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Contributing to company strategies and plans


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates’ degree in Accounting or payroll certification preferred; High school diploma or GED required
  • Two to seven years’ payroll processing experience
  • Basic knowledge of labor laws and regulations, specifically Wage and Hour regulations
  • Intermediate to Advanced Problem solving skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Applications, including Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of ADP Payroll or Ultipro preferred
  • To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Needs the ability to plan, prioritize and organize effectively; and the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all staff. This position requires the ability to organize, multi-task, prioritize and re-prioritize daily workload and work with minimum supervision and the ability to meet deadlines, establish deadlines, and to prioritize deadlines.
  • The verbal and written ability to communicate in English with coworkers, customers and the general public. This position requires a skill set in writing grammatically correct routine business correspondence, editing correspondence to correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. This position requires the ability to speak clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
  • The ability to do math equations; billing reconciliations; and summaries for periodic and annual statistics.
  • Requires general computer knowledge; and requires working knowledge in Microsoft Office. Experience with ADP Payroll preferred.
  • This position requires the following abilities: common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; to exercise judgment to solve operational problems where the answer is not apparent; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; and to distinguish between general audience information and confidential information and to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk; and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to five (5) pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
