PROGRAM SUMMARY: Easterseals Academy is a therapeutic school that provides schooling for children with an autism spectrum disorder, emotional disability, developmental delay or intellectual disability. School districts refer students to Easterseals Academy where the schools provide an alternative school placement for these students to help them to achieve independence. Easterseals Academy has three campuses, located in Chicago, Machesney Park and Tinley Park.

POSITION LOCATION: This position is located at the Easterseals Academy - Chicago Campus at 1939 W. 13th Street, Chicago 60608.

POSITION SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the Student Safety Coordinator is to ensure the safety and security of the facility, employees and program participants at the Chicago Academy. Additional responsibilities with record keeping of drills and supporting training initiatives for all three Academies is required.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Screen each person seeking entry to the facility utilizing camera, voice and/or buzzer system.
• Ensure that visitors and program participants sign in and out according to program procedures.
• Escort visitors to the elevators or meeting spaces when necessary.
• Direct school guests, visitors and parents/guardians to the school reception or special event space.
• Ensure that all visitors check in with the appropriate staff person.
• Consult with program manager and/or other designated program staff as needed according to program procedures. Ensure that all entry/exit doors always remain locked.
• Patrol playground and grounds at designated times and as needed; inform unauthorized individuals to leave the premises.
• Secures the parking lot during high traffic times Routes packages and mail from vendors to identified recipients. Oversees and trains Student Safety Staff at all three Easterseals locations, aiding with day to day response.
• Maintains registry, attendance records, and notes for all fire drills and trainings at the three campuses.
• Supports the Director of Facilities with the development, maintenance and observation of standard operating procedures for security personnel.
• Maintains and inspects the duty logs used between shift changes.
• Supports the Facilities Manager with property inspection steps related to life safety measures and requirements.
• Responsible for training Student Safety Staff in concierge style security techniques.
• Creates and manages employee ID’s Supports HR with obtaining and maintaining PERC registration for Security staff.
• All other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification:

• Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required.

Experienced Required:

• Five years of experience as a Security Officer in a concierge capacity.
• Lead Security Worker experience a plus.

Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of and experience in working with people, including those of diverse backgrounds.
• Models sound customer service driven practices.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
