is accepting applications for the following position:
Chief of Campus Police
Under the direction of the Vice President for Student Services, the Chief develops, implements and administers law enforcement, security, crime prevention, safety and parking programs for the College.
Salary Range: $60,910 - $76,130
Essential Job Functions:
Coordinate staff efforts in crime prevention, patrol operations, criminal investigations, charging, radio communications, and parking functions for all college locations, including TCAT-Athens.
Provide protection for College personnel, property, and guests.
Maintain continued surveillance of all areas within department jurisdiction to carry out regulations of the College and enforce federal, state, and local laws when applicable.
Responsible for building security and assist as needed with campus key control program.
Provide safety and security prevention and education programs to the College community.
Be supportive of students, faculty, and staff and the mission of the College.
Investigate accidents involving persons or property, identifies probable cause of accident, and pursues appropriate course of action.
Responsible for enforcing policies and regulations regarding vehicular traffic and parking.
Provide liaison with Student Services, the Physical Plant and other College offices; remain visible on campus and be readily available to members of the campus community.
Provide interface and maintain appropriate liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Coordinate security needs for athletic and other scheduled events to include both parking and event management in cooperation with the appropriate department.
Perform shift work and “hands on” police/security functions as necessary, utilizing law enforcement equipment.
Prepares and communicates work schedules for assigned employees to ensure efficient and effective use of personnel
Responsible for pre-employment selection and supervision, evaluation, training, and development of all Campus Police employees.
Coordinate and plan crisis and disaster plan, drills, and activities on campus in conjunction with the College Emergency Response Plan.
Compile statistical data, issue necessary written correspondence and reports and supervise the maintenance of all records and files.
Responsible for ensuring all aspects of Police Department compliance with POST regulations, including required annual law enforcement certification and other training/workshops appropriate for police/security personnel.
Responsible for purchasing all security equipment and supplies in accordance with Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and College purchasing policies.
Manage administrative functions of the department including budgetary needs and long- range personnel and equipment needs; prepare purchase requisitions, review monthly account statements.
Develops, recommends, and implements long- and short-range Safety and Security plans for the College.
Testifies in court and legal proceedings.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements of the Position:
Minimum of Associate’s Degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, or related field required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
Five years of practical experience in all phases of law enforcement, preferably on a supervisory level.
Successful applicant must meet the Tennessee Police Officers Standards and Training (POST) requirements and be eligible for certification upon initial employment.
A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
Advises Vice President for Student Services on all public safety related matters.
Ability to appreciate and understand the mission and culture of a community college and the role of campus police/security in that environment.
Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the College community and the public.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to effectively supervise personnel and complete all associated personnel actions in a timely and accurate manner.
Ability to provide effective leadership with emphasis upon the basic principles of human behavior, communication, and decision making.
Ability to accurately prepare records and reports.
Ability to administer College and TBR policies to assure compliance.
Ability to prepare and monitor departmental budget.
Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
