Student Accessibility Services (SAS) is an important tool for students that helps to remove disability-related barriers towards student success. SAS believes that students should have equal access to education, regardless of disability, and our job is to assist students in finding the best way to accomplish this.
NOTE: This position is part-time, flexible schedule, up to 16 hours a week.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Provide assistance to students seeking assistance from Student Accessibility Services (SAS).
- Greet and interact with individuals with disabilities, Veterans and military-connected students, and the greater community.
- Receive student information and requests.
- Assist with the appointment process.
- Respond to and contact students via email and phone in a timely manner.
- Maintain student files.
- Assist in acquiring notetaking services to qualified students with disabilities including:
- Soliciting students to volunteer as note takers;
- Making phone calls;
- Accessing other campus services.
- Proctor exams. This may include:
- Ensuring the integrity of the testing process;
- Following the instructor directions;
- Carrying out SAS procedures on testing;
- Reading tests or other material aloud to students as needed;
- Providing scribing services to students as needed.
- General office work as assigned including, but not limited to:
- Attending weekly staff meetings.
- Assist the SAS Program Specialist with student files and information using the Accessible Information Management (AIM) platform;
- Maintain agreement of confidentiality regarding knowledge of individual students. Access assistive/adaptive equipment;
- Keep office and testing areas sanitized and tidy.
- Responsibly and effectively communicate via Microsoft Teams, phone, and email and maintain a reliable, punctual schedule.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or related
SKILL IN/KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Microsoft Office applications and general office technology/equipment
- Interacting professionally with diverse students, family members, staff, and instructors
- Problem-solving, with appropriate decision-making processes within legal and policy guidelines
- Working independently and as a member of a team
- Working calmly under pressure and/or when supporting frustrated individuals
- Effectively communicating in English both orally and in writing
- Helpful and proactive office and/or customer service work
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to meet the physical demands of sitting for prolonged periods of time at a desk/computer workstation, using repetitive arm, hand, and finger movements.
- Ability to work in an open office setting with frequent in-person interaction and numerous interruptions, work under pressure, and handle multiple tasks/prioritize competing demands.
- Ability to read printed materials and a computer screen.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:
These positions may work full or part-time on an on-call basis, for periods of one week to six months, to fill in for permanent staff absences. As an hourly on-call position, there is no predictability or guarantee of the number of hours/days that may be scheduled. Hourly employees maintain an “at-will” employment relationship meaning that either you or the College may terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
If your hours total more than 350 hours in any 12-month period, your position will be represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees Union.OTHER CONDITIONS:
