ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- ___ Responsible for greeting and interviewing all patients or patient representatives.
Greeting/interviewing customers MUST include friendly, cooperative responses, high
level of listening skills, and appropriate/thorough responses.
- ___ Interviews patient/patient representative to obtain identification such as patients
name, address, age, telephone, occupation, emergency contact, attending physician,
insurance, and collects co-payments at the point of registration.
3.___ Ensures that the physician orders contain patient name, patient date of birth, physician
name, physician signature, diagnosis, and procedure to be completed.
4.___ Prepares registration materials, ensuring that complete and accurate billing information is obtained
along with appropriate authorization and signatures at every visit.
5.___ Identify outpatients that carry Medicare insurance and evaluates for medical necessity. Demonstrates
an understanding of LMRP manuals and ICD-9 code book. Provides Advanced Beneficiary
Notices when required.
6.___ Assures that compliance rules and regulations are met by completing the Medicare
Secondary Payor (MSP) form in its entirety and that the Patient Bill of Rights are given
to all patients.
7.___ Ensures that time at work is used effectively to consistently complete assigned work
during the shift; that all work is reviewed for errors and corrected by the end of the
shift; and any personal business are conducted during the appropriate break time.
8.___ Answers all calls in a prompt, polite, and professional manner. Uses interpersonal skills
to assist other departments when appropriate to ensure smooth patient flow and good will.
9.__ Documents clear and concise account activity using the credit note functions
of the STAR Financial system.
10__ Demonstrates age appropriate competency skills and knowledge, displays ability to
perform skills specific to patient population identified in unit specific skill list:

- “The associate will hold in confidence any and all patient information communicated or
stored using any medium including oral communication. In addition, the associate will
seek to protect patient information from inadvertent use or disclosure by adhering to
hospital and Triad Blue Book policies.”
- Explains hospital policies/regulations pertaining to pertinent patient information as
appropriate.
- Performs some cashier duties which involve collecting point of service payments at
the point of registration. This includes writing receipts, placing payments in payment
envelopes, and dropping payments in the drop safe.
- Assures protection and privacy of health information as attained through written
electronic or oral disclosure.
- Assists with Information Desk, Radiology order entry, and records custodian duties.
- Contributes to Performance Improvement activities at Kosciusko Community Hospital.
- Performs any opening or closing duties in the area such as filling printers/copier with paper,
assembling billing folders for pickup, securing all confidential information opening or securing the
entrances of the building.
- May assist with transporting patients using appropriate technique if required, providing
appropriate training has been obtained.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Continually evaluates procedures and submits recommendations for system
improvements.
- Attends in-service programs, and departmental meetings as required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Recommended high school diploma or equivalent. Medical terminology required within one year,
EXPERIENCE RECOMMENDED:
Prior direct customer service experience required.
Previous Hospital Registration experience helpful.
Minimum of one year experience in a clerical/accounting positing preferably in a healthcare
related environment, or an insurance company.
LICENSURE REQUIRED:
None
OTHER:
Must be able to type 30 – 35 wpm in order to use CRT/terminal and to timely enter patient data.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills in order to interact with customers effectively;
ability to interpret a variety of documents and correspondence relating to patient accounts. Must be
able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and/or overtime if needed.
Some exposure to blood and body fluids: Exposure Control Level II
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal office environment with exposure to patients through the interviewing process. Exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature changes and the like through location of registration area.
